Chrissy Teigen just got very real about the problem of mom shaming

ICYMI Chrissy Teigen and John Legend went out to dinner last month, and the internet had a freaking meltdown. No really, that happened. false

Their date night took place about 10 days after Teigen gave birth to the couple’s completely adorable baby, Luna. And apparently, since Teigen is a public person, people felt like it was totally cool to mom shame her about leaving her baby. Never mind that she was eating, which is, you know, something that all humans need to do in order to stay alive. And never mind that her baby was being well cared for, not just hanging out at home alone. We could go on (and on), but we don’t need to because Chrissy Teigen herself is speaking out about the ridiculousness of mom shaming and what she has to say is ON POINT.

Teigen sat down with Michael Strahan for his first day as anchor on the set of GMA, and she opened up about the whole experience. She said, “It was about 9 to 10 days after or something. We needed a break. We needed to go and enjoy each other’s company and be out. I used to read mom blogs like crazy so I knew ‘mom-shaming’ was a thing, but I didn’t think it would come from going to dinner.”

Taking a break is a completely normal and healthy thing for parents. Since when is that something to be ashamed of? Teigen went on to say they were only gone for about an hour, and the mom shaming got so completely out of hand that John finally had to go public and say something because it just wouldn’t end. Legend took to Twitter to say, “Funny there’s no dad-shaming. When both of us go out to dinner, shame both of us so Chrissy doesn’t have to take it all. We’ll split it.”

While it’s absurd that either of them have to deal with being shamed for going out to eat, Legend has a point. What is the deal with all the hate directed at moms? Especially when the criticism comes from other moms? We just don’t get it. As Teigen says in her interview with Strahan, “I think happy mommy, happy daddy, happy baby.”

We wish you all the happiness in the world, Chrissy! For all three of you.
