By now, you’ve heard the news: Chrissy Teigen is pregnant with her third child. Of course, Teigen and husband John Legend’s announcement of their growing family wasn’t just your run-of-the-mill family photo complete with a letter board posted to Instagram. No—because he’s a musical legend and she’s, well, Chrissy Teigen, the couple used Legend’s latest music video, “Wild” to offer a cryptic hint that the mom of two is soon to be a mom of three. Teigen confirmed the news by posting a casual video showing off her growing belly, in true Twitter queen form. But now, Teigen is revealing more about how she first learned of her third pregnancy, and it’s “quite a story,” indeed.
On August 14th, one of Teigen’s 13 million Twitter followers asked her a super-personal question, and Teigen didn’t hold back on answering honestly, because girl always keeps it real. The Twitter user asked Teigen if she knew she was pregnant when she headed into breast implant removal surgery in early June. Teigen responded to the fan’s question by writing, “Oh, it’s quite a story. Lol.”
Luckily, she didn’t leave us waiting for the deets with bated breath—the cookbook author explained how she did a routine pregnancy test before surgery, and it came back negative. Then, a few weeks after surgery, she says she took another test—and it was positive.
Teigen continued by setting the scene for us for how she went about finding out she was pregnant—and it was on the morning of Legend’s latest album release. “So the morning of John’s album release, he wakes up at 3am to do good morning america. I woke up with him and was like man, should take my monthly test to be disappointed….I was not disappointed.”
But I was scared shitless. Was pretty positive you shouldn’t get your boobs out while pregnant? Pretty sure, she wrote.
False negatives aren’t uncommon, but getting breast implant removal surgery while unknowingly pregnant is—and it’s also dangerous. Teigen expressed her fear in another tweet, writing, “So we prayed to the boob surgery gods that everything would be okay. Went to every appointment terrified. Even without the surgery, I didn’t think I could get pregnant naturally anyway. So the odds just felt…bad.”
Teigen concluded the Twitter thread by ending on a hopeful note—and then a comedic one, obviously. “But what they say so often can be true. When you give up on trying, life has a way of surprising you,” Teigen wrote. “In summary, my boobs hurt.” We feel you, Chrissy.
We’re so glad Teigen is still having a healthy pregnancy despite the scary circumstances—and rocking designer heels while she’s at it.
