Chrissy Metz wants a sex scene with her character on “This is Us” and she’s absolutely right
Anyone who has been watching the hit NBC show This Is Us knows that the storyline would be worthless without Chrissy Metz’s character Kate. As much as Chrissy loves playing Kate, though, she told PEOPLE that she would like to see Kate have a sex scene in Season 2 of This Is Us. We are here for it, because the sad truth is we don’t see enough sex scenes on TV that feature fat individuals.
In This Is Us, Chrissy’s character Kate has a boyfriend Toby, and she’s gunning for this happy couple to have sex on screen, because they deserve to have that moment just as much as anyone else. She talked to PEOPLE about her hopes for Kate’s character, and how her life has changed because of her role in This Is Us.
"I want it on screen — I guess it’ll offend people, still. But fat people do have sex, for the record," Chrissy told PEOPLE.
Not only do the majority of TV shows fail to cast people who aren’t thin by Hollywood standards, but the shows that do feature fat individuals never show them having sex. And Chrissy is right — everyone has sex. Which means everyone has a right to a sex scene on screen.
Chrissy has always been open about her struggles with depression and body acceptance, and now that she’s got a tremendous platform through This Is Us, she’s using her voice to encourage people everywhere that they have a right to be seen and heard — no matter what size they are.
“You have to use what you have, she told PEOPLE. “ I wouldn’t have this role if I had already lost weight. Now it’s about telling a story of a woman struggling with her weight, just as I have and still am.
Having a sex scene between Kate and Toby would elevate This Is Us even more. It would set the show apart from what we’re used to seeing in the media, reminding people everywhere that fat people have sex just as much sex as anyone else, and it’s just as beautiful.
