The new trailer for the Chris Farley doc is heartbreaking and wonderful
It’s been nearly 20 years since wildly charismatic actor and comedian Chris Farley passed away, but his impact on comedy and the people who love it has truly stood the test of time. Now, those who never quite knew his background — or want to reminisce about how talented he was — are invited to check out what will surely be a touching documentary on the late funny man entitled I Am Chris Farley. The film tells Farley’s story, starting from his childhood in Madison, Wisconsin, to the fame he found on Saturday Night Live and in Hollywood before suffering a drug overdose at age 33.
From what we’re seeing in the first trailer for the film, which premiered today on Buzzfeed, filmmaker Brent Hodge was able to recruit plenty of comedy legends to participate in the documentary, including Molly Shannon, Bob Saget, Dan Aykroyd, Adam Sandler, Bob Odenkirk, and Farley’s SNL and Tommy Boy co-star, David Spade.
In the September 2013 announcement of the film, Farley’s brother Kevin said, “The world has yet to hear the full story about our beloved brother and son and we look forward to working with the team at Network [Entertainment Inc.] to bring Chris’ inspiring, funny and tragic story to his many fans, as well as introducing him to a whole new generation of comedy fans.”
We look forward to meeting him. I Am Chris Farley will premiere on SpikeTV on August 10 at 10 p.m.
