Chris Evans isn’t ready to hang up his Captain America shield yet
It feels like we just got to know some of these amazing Marvel characters and movies, but already there’s talk of a few of their stories winding down. One of those happens to be the story of Captain America, the alter ego of Steve Rogers, as played by all-American boy Chris Evans. Believe it or not, there’s only one more Captain America movie left and two more Avengers movies that Evans is contracted to appear in. Then we could be left in a world without any more Captain America (well, without Chris Evans as Cap, anyway), and no one wants that. Evans doesn’t want it, either.
Talking to Collider, Evans spilled that if Marvel wants more Captain America movies, he is willing and ready to suit up with the stars and stripes again.
“Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me,” he explained, “Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor..it’s just the best.”
Evans’ current Marvel contract has him playing Cap for six movies, and he’s been through four already: Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron (thankfully, his quick cameos in Thor 2 and Ant-Man don’t count). That leaves just two more movies left, one of them being his last stand alone* movie, Captain America: Civil War, and then one last outing in the two-parter Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 & 2. Then he’s done — contractually, speaking at least.
But this new interview gives us major hope that there could be more plans for Cap down the road, whether it be another appearance in a Marvel Phase Three film, or simply a brand new movie for him even beyond that. Phase Four? Another stand alone Captain America? Something with Peggy Carter again — PLEASE? Whatever it might be, if Marvel has more plans, Evans is ready. And we’ll be waiting.
*It’s a stand alone movie for Captain America, but literally everyone is in it. It’s easier to say the only person who’s not in it, and that’s Hulk. Which is sad. But the 4 billion other Marvel superheroes in it will certainly make up for Hulk’s absence.
