Chloë Moretz has something to say to the tabloids that focused on her body instead of her career

Chloë Grace Moretz — an accomplished actress and rad human — was recently photographed on the set of the Neighbors sequel, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, which stars Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Selena Gomez, Lisa Kudrow, and many other talented individuals. Moretz’s sorority sister character, Miranda Rodriguez, lives next door to Efron’s fraternity and, along the way, hilarity ensues.

When the paparazzi captured Chloë on film, they caught her while she was filming a scene in a bikini and several media outlets quickly re-printed these images.

“It’s one of the golden rules of cinema: If your film stars Zac Efron, there will be shirtlessness. And Chloe Grace Moretz followed suit on Tuesday as she shed her clothes on the set of the sequel to Neighbors in LA,” writes Daily Mail on October 28th. “The 18-year-old looked flashed her perfect bikini body in a skimpy two-piece as she filmed scenes for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising,” the Daily Mail added.

After reading the phrases “shed her clothes,” “perfect bikini body,” and “skimpy two-piece,” to describe Moretz, the actress was not happy —understandably. To express her disappointment, she tweeted, “Have noticed some posts from seemingly reputable outlets regarding me wearing a bikini, I would rather you discuss my career not my body thx.”

Here, here! While we’re totally rooting for Chloë, and we’re glad she took to Twitter to call out the publications who grossly reduced her down to a girl in a bikini, we’re also bummed. Bummed that an 18-year-old human woman has to defend herself from predatory media outlets that chose to sexualize the actress instead of praise her for her talents.

Chloë Grace Moretz’s message is a powerful one though, and can be applied to the seemingly infinite amount of time the media has focused on a woman’s looks instead of focusing on what she has accomplished. We hope that the more this issue is brought to light, the less likely we’ll have to see women (and men, too!) subtracted down to the way they look.

So, will we be checking out Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising when it hits theaters? You better believe it – because Chloë Grace Moretz is a fantastic actress and she has the résumé to prove it.
