Why Chloë Moretz is getting criticized for her body positive Instagram

While we all love body positivity, it was hard to look at Chloë Moretz’s recent nearly-naked Instagram post without getting a bit of an icky feeling. Not because of the photo itself, it’s quite the opposite. We adore the fact that Moretz loves her body, because nothing is better than a woman who refuses to feel ashamed of her body. It’s also super cute that it was taken during a fun trip with her boyfriend. However, it’s hard not to feel the hypocrisy of the actress posting what appears to be a topless Insta considering her history of shaming other women who do basically the same thing.

It’s a pretty tame photo, and we’d never judge. But if Moretz thinks women who post ~indecent~ photos are setting a bad example, what is she saying about herself?

So why all the fuss?

The photo, which was taken during a beach trip with boyfriend Brooklyn Beckham, is really NBD. But, in context, it seems hypocritical.

Earlier this year, Chloe tweeted at Kim Kardashian to shame her for her nude selfies. Though she’s said it wasn’t slut shaming, it’s hard to see it as anything else. “I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women,” she tweeted. “Teaching them we have so much more to offer than just our bodies.”

Does this mean Moretz isn’t following her own rules? Or that her body, for some reason, is less inherently sexual than Kim K’s? It makes us feel a little weird.

We just hope this means Moretz has learned a little more about body positivity and uplifting, rather than shaming, other women.

We wish her nothing but happiness, and pride in who she is, topless or completely covered.
