Chloë Grace Moretz has some thoughts about “squad goals”

Chloë Grace Moretz is super talented and clearly has an awesome personality, so I don’t think we’re the only ones who want her in our #squad. However, that might not be possible. Not because we don’t think she’d be an awesome friend, but because she’s not too keen on the idea of “squads” in general. She spoke to Nylon magazine about the term, and the downside of it that we don’t often think about.

“I agree with having a good core group of friends, but the issue I have with squads is it creates exclusivity,” she explained. “I was never included in those things when I was a kid. I was the weird one that chose to do movies, so now I go out of my way to be nice to people and make them feel included.”

While we’re sure people who hashtag things #SquadGoals aren’t doing it purposefully to exclude people, we can totally see how the term could end up making people feel like they’re on the outside of something that should be really fun.

Moretz has referenced this term a few times, jokingly bringing it up on Instagram:

To each their own. We respect and support Moretz’s mission to be inclusive and open, and think that’s a philosophy everyone should have in life, but also understand the value of finding a small group of friends who you love. Can’t we all just be one giant #Squad?
