Chloë Grace Moretz got real about why she didn’t want to go to college

Let’s just get the obvious out of the way, shall we? Chloë Grace Moretz is mega-talented, super smart, and an all around KICK-ASS (get it?!) star. So, it’s no surprise that she totally ~gets~ why more and more young people are adverse to attending college. And more specifically, PAYING for it.

Moretz recently spoke with Elle about this issue that’s been at the forefront of her mind, “When I turned 18, I decided that I couldn’t justify the expense of college. I’ve made all my own money—I’ve worked my butt off, and all of [my] savings, I’ve made those myself.” She continued,  “And I can’t justify spending my own money and throwing it away to go to college just to pay it back for 15 years. That’s going to make me resent an experience that should be so fulfilling. It feels really inappropriate, like I’m getting robbed.”

Moretz makes a very good point. According to Forbes, in 2015, the average cost of attending a four-year public college was over $28,000 per year, and for a four-year private college that number was $59,000.

That’s A LOT of money.

So, what would be Moretz’s solution? Well, apparently she told Hillary Clinton, who she’s campaigned for and also considers a mentor, “Why can’t we make it so when kids turn 18, they want to go to college?” Makes sense to us!

And it’s not that Moretz is AGAINST education, in fact that’s pretty much the opposite of how she feels about it. She went on further to explain, “[College] should be free. You shouldn’t have to buy education. That’s something we need to give to the youth of America because it’s going to raise income, it’s going to raise job satisfaction, it’s probably going to raise empathy and understanding of other people. Education is everything. “

We couldn’t agree more. Education truly is important, and it would be nice if there were an easier and more accessible way for more young people to reap those benefits.

Who knows, perhaps one day we’ll see Moretz lobbying down in Washington, D.C. for this very important cause!
