This child’s Christmas letter to her dead father is going viral for the saddest reason

There’s Christmas heartbreak, and then there’s this gut-wrenching Christmas list from a mystery child, whose letter to her dead father was found in a field in Dunfermline, Scotland and made its way to Twitter.

That town’s local paper, the Dunfermline Press, reports that the tragic letter was found by local man Stuart McColl attached to a balloon. It has since has gone viral on social media, as concerned human beings around the world want to give the child some help — and the presents that he or she asked for.

“Everyone’s getting involved, and we’ve already had people wanting to donate to get these gifts,” McColl said.

The letter reads:

"Hi dad, just writing you a letter to tell you I'm missing you and tell you news! I'm sure you know I'm in foster care cause mom is sick and my ear is blocked from Monday. Tomorrow we're leaving. I really miss school and you. I know are up in heaven but are you safe? Oh ya before I go here's my dream and xmas list. My dream is for you my daddy to put under my pillow that you wrote. My xmas list: boots/studs, Astros, rebounder net, new Premier League ball, Real Madrid kit Bye daddy I love you."

According to a note scribbled in the bottom right corner, it was written on December 1st.
