Why does this cheesecake have over 2.9 million views on YouTube?
YouTube breeds all types of stars: kids who bite their brother’s fingers, humans who are really good at doing beauty tutorials, dogs doing hilarious things, and cats doing even more hilarious things — but with more attitude, obviously.
But cheesecake as a YouTube star? Weird, but yes. YouTube user ochikeron posted a video titled 3 Ingredients Soufflé Cheesecake (Japanese Cotton Cheesecake) — a step-by-step tutorial explaining how to make Japanese Cotton Cheesecake using. . . surprise . . . only three ingredients. We’ll hand it to her, using only egg whites, white chocolate and cream cheese to make a delicious cheesecake (the deliciousness of the cheesecake has been confirmed by many of the 1,710 comments) is a very important feat worth telling the world about, but it’s surprising that the world actually listened. I mean, it’s cheesecake, you guys. It’s not like the most impressive thing ever. But what is impressive is the amount of views the video has gotten. Ochikeron posted the video three years ago, and it’s just now going viral. So far, the video has garnered over 2.8 millions views. It’s hard to fathom how many people that is, but to attempt — there are around 2.8 million people living in Chicago. So, basically all of Chicago has watched this ordinary cheesecake video. Perhaps the cheesecake’s jump to YouTube stardom has to do with today being National Cheesecake Day. Maybe 2.8 million people didn’t have instant access to cheesecake IRL, so watching cheesecake on YouTube was the next best option? It’s hard to say. But either way, let’s all go get some cheesecake.

We’ll hand it to this pastry master — using only egg whites, white chocolate and cream cheese to make a delicious cheesecake (the deliciousness of the cheesecake has been confirmed by many of the 1,710 comments) is a very important feat worth telling the world about. Plus, it’s pretty brilliant and convenient —a three-ingredient cake is MY kind of cake.
But, it’s kiiinda surprising that the world actually listened. I mean, it’s just cheesecake, you guys! It’s not like the most impressive thing ever. But what is impressive is the amount of views the video has gotten.
