A cheaper wedding might mean a longer lasting marriage and we are listening
This may or may not come as surprising news, but it turns out that spending your life savings on the flowers and the DJ for your wedding is not the key ingredient to making a marriage last. According to new research, a cheaper wedding may be the key.
Despite the fact that debt is a major issue for a lot of people, it seems like people do not cut costs when it comes to their wedding expenses.
According to Emory University researchers Andrew Francis and Hugo Mialon, the average wedding today is around $30,000.
In related research, the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College has released information advising against a young couple over-spending on their wedding.
The research reports that financial strain already plagues the majority of the American people, therefore spending lavishly on a wedding is an unwise move. Flushing accounts that are already modest puts strain on a marriage during a time that should be filled with more excitement and bliss.
The research also found that couples who spent $1,000 or less on a wedding had significantly higher changes at a longer lasting marriage.
On the flip side, if you do go broke from your wedding, there’s a handful of restaurants around the country that offer free meals for a couple on their wedding anniversary!
