Charlotte Russe is re-opening its doors—and having a HUGE sale right now

UPDATE, JUNE 7TH: In March, Charlotte Russe announced it was closing all of its stores and liquidating its inventory. But the retail chain has been given a second chance at life. On June 5th, the brand announced that it’s relaunching and opened five new retail locations: Southland Center in Michigan, Cumberland Mall in Georgia, Willowbrook Mall in New Jersey, Park City Center in Pennsylvania, and Monmouth Mall in New Jersey. The brand plans to open 100 locations in total. It also relaunched its website—and currently, everything is 50% off.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Charlotte Russe retail outlets back for customers who love the brand’s affordable on-trend fashions,” Eric Grundy, CEO of YM Inc., said in a press release. “We are excited to be back and hiring.”

PREVIOUSLY, MARCH 7TH: Teens of the ’90s and early aughts know there was no greater pleasure than strolling through the local mall, popping into stores like Wet Seal, Bebe, and Hollister. But, thanks to the prevalence of online shopping, many of our most cherished mall brands have shut their doors. Charlotte Russe is the latest mall staple to go out of business, and we’re genuinely bummed out right now.

According to USA Today, on March 6th, the retailer confirmed that it will be closing all of its remaining stores and liquidating its inventory. More than 8,700 people will be out of jobs once the chain closes its doors. Final sales began today, March 7th, in the 416 stores across the country. The Charlotte Russe website, meanwhile, states that the online store has already shut down (and bears a depressing black banner that reads “Going out of business”).

USA Today notes that if you have Charlotte Russe gift cards, the last day to use them will be March 21st. All stores are expected to close by April 30th, so we have about two months left to relive the nostalgia of our mall rat days.

Many on Twitter are also feeling the loss.

As CNN notes, the brand originally tried to avoid completely shutting down by filing for bankruptcy protection in February. It announced that it was closing 94 stores at the time. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to stop the brand from going under. Between Toys ‘R’ Us going out of business, Payless Shoe Source closing stores, and now this, it definitely feels like the end of an era.

If you need us, we’ll be pouring one out for all of our favorite Charlotte Russe homecoming dresses.
