Chad Michael Murray is joining the cast of one of your favorite shows…as a cult leader

Chad Michael Murray has officially left Tree Hill for Riverdale. That’s right—the CW alum has been cast in the third season of the current CW hit series Riverdale as Edgar Evernever, the elusive cult leader of the Farm—the group that brainwashed Alice Cooper. As Variety reports, Edgar arrives in Riverdale to “spread his teachings and heal the ravaged soul of the once-wholesome town.” He’s described as a “charming, handsome guru” who could be “hiding a more sinister agenda.” Murray took to Twitter on February 8th to confirm the news, writing, “Hang on tight coz it’s gonna be a wild ride.”

The series has referenced the sinister cult leader before—his daughter Evelyn (Zoé De Grand Maison) is a classmate of Betty’s at Riverdale High. Murray’s casting comes on the heels of the series’ renewal for a fourth season. The actor last starred in FOX’s Star and ABC’s Agent Carter. However, he’s perhaps best known for his teen heartthrob roles on The WB’s One Tree Hill and in A Cinderella Story opposite Hilary Duff.

Our inner tweens are more than ready to see Murray flex his acting chops as a sinister cult leader. It’s everything we never knew we needed. Riverdale airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
