Sophie Turner, Hailey Bieber, and other celebs have been quietly reviving this retro hairstyle
We’re always looking to celebrities for fresh new hair inspo, but it turns out that in the past few months, literally all of your favorite celebs have been throwing it in reverse when it comes to their hair vibes. The flip hairstyle is officially trending for fall, and it’s the retro hair look we never knew we needed.
The number of celebs who have tried on a flip in recent months is dizzying—Cardi B, Keke Palmer, Hailey Bieber, Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian West, Kylie Jenner, and more have all rocked this retro hairstyle lately.
What we love most about it is that it’s a throwback to two different but equally glam eras: the ’60s and the ’90s.
A polished mix of Jackie O’s signature look and “the Rachel,” the flip is actually super versatile. It can be worn as a sleek bob or a sky-high pony, which is why we suspect so many celebs have tried it on from the red carpet to the runway and beyond.
Celebrity hair guru Justine Marjan told Glamour that this look is “a reiteration of the ’90s version of a ‘60s-era hairstyle.” She loves it because “it feels cute and sexy at the same time,” which we’d fully agree with.
Hailey Bieber has tried both versions of the style—at the 2019 Met Gala in May, she looked full-on ’60s glam, before posing in a grunge-inspired ’90s version of the look for W Magazine in August.
J.Lo, Turner, Kardashian West, and Kehlani have all tried the ’60s-inspired flip with a voluminous, mile-high pony, which is surely the most glam way to get your hair off your face.
In fact, J.Lo and Kim love this hairstyle so much, they’ve sported it as a swingy updo and as a bob, because the limit does not exist when it comes to this look.
We’re also loving the ’90s version, which involves pigtails, headbands, and hair clips galore, as evidenced by Palmer, Jenner, and Cardi B.
This truly is the retro dream hairstyle we’re ready to try, and it works for literally any occasion, as shown by these glam celebs. A blast from the past, indeed!
