Some people were just born to be in showbiz, and they start at a really, really young age. But sometimes that amount of pressure can get to be too much. It turns out that Devon Sawa had a similar experience. In fact, Sawa left Hollywood for five years and came back — and now he’s opening up about why.

The actor started his film career when he was 11 years old. You might remember as the teen heartthrob in Casper (ICYMI, he’s on board for a sequel). Sawa has grown up to be a very lovely man with a wife and a baby girl. But it turns out, he almost quit Hollywood altogether during that hiatus in his twenties.

In an interview with Us Weekly, the now 39-year-old revealed that he wasn’t always so sure that acting was the right career path for him.

We don’t blame him—acting is such a demanding job as it is!

And we couldn’t even imagine what doing it your entire childhood must be like. Still, we’re glad he came back.

Aww, it warms our hearts to know that Sawa finally found satisfaction in what he was doing. But even he admits that it almost didn’t end up this way! Sawa also told Us: “I think if somebody hadn’t had sent me that audition I think that I may still be out of it. I was happy what I was doing but I’m happier now. I’m happier back doing what I really love.”

Sawa’s still at it — his new series Somewhere Between premiered on ABC back in July. Sure, he’s not playing a hunky ghost-boy, but we’ll take what we can get!
