It’s safe to say 2016 has had its fair share of dumpster fire moments. It’s also been a devastating year for losing many celebrity icons. We’ve lost Alan Rickman, Prince, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali, George Michael and now, Carrie Fisher — all in 2016.

With so much heartbreak happening just days apart, many feel like the year is cursed. So, the internet has joined forces to protect Betty White, to make sure the beloved 94-year-old actress makes it through the final few days of 2016 unharmed.

A “Help protect Betty White from 2016” GoFundMe has been set up to protect the multigenerational comedic actress from 2016’s shadow of death. Now, as far as we know Betty White is completely healthy, but this seems to be an entirely preemptive move.

The fund was set up by GoFundMe user Demtrios Hrysikos on December 27th after news of Fisher’s death shocked and saddened many. Hrysikos wrote in his fund’s description, “Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White! If she’s okay with it I will fly to where ever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan 1 , 2017.”

This is something we can get behind.

Hrysikos adds,

This is still something we can get behind.

Hrysikos set a goal of $2,000, and that sum has already been met and exceeded. 217 donors have raised $2,376 in just 20 hours, and many others have shared the GoFunMe on Facebook. The campaign itself has been “liked” by over 650 GoFundMe users and is currently trending on the site.

If you want to help keep Betty White safe from 2016, you can donate to the cause here. There’s only a matter of days until we’re out of the woods. But until then, we must do what we have to in order to keep the gem of the comedy world out of harm’s way.
