Taylor Swift is best known for being an incredibly talented pop star, but what is less known is she also has a prolific track record as a philanthropist. The musician has made news in the past from donating to everything from a young fan’s leukemia treatment, Louisiana flood relief, to fellow pop colleague Kesha’s legal defense. It is easy to see that Swift has a generous penchant for giving back when she can.

That is why we’re so incredibly touched by her recent donation to a fan’s family’s GoFundMe page

18-year-old Taylor Swift fan, Katie Beth Carter, was involved in a car crash over Labor Day weekend. She tragically did no survive the accident. As if her loss were not enough, her family is also responsible for covering her medical and funeral costs. They set up a GoFundMe page, which begins with this beautiful sentiment:

“Katie Beth Carter was loved by all who knew her. She was a shining star who touched so many lives. She was one of the most beautiful souls among us.”

And while donations from loved ones and well-wishers were sweeping in, on Friday Carter’s sister shared a message from a particularly special donator via Instagram:

Swift donated $5,000 along with a message that reads: “Kimi, no words could express how sorry I am for your loss. I know that you will keep Katie’s memory alive. Please know how much I am thinking of you and saying a prayer for your family. All my love, Taylor. “

Katie’s post is captioned: “I cannot believe this at all…thank you so much, Taylor…me and my sister are smiling so hard…”

We cannot get over this sweet gesture. It is so incredible and inspiring to see Swift giving back to the loved ones of one her fans. And while this tragedy cannot be remedied, it warms all of our hearts to see the comfort that it gave to Carter’s sister. As Kimi said in her Instagram post, we’re sure that Katie is smiling too.

With help of Swift and many others, the Carter’s GoFundMe page has almost reached their $40,000 goal. Amazing.
