John Boyega's love life has been ruined by "Star Wars," and ugh
When Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened in theaters, fans all around the world had the awesome opportunity to revisit the beloved franchise once more. The film picks up some thirty years after Return of the Jedi and introduced us all to a relatively unknown actor at the time, John Boyega. He played the disaffected stormtrooper, Finn. The role launched the British actor into the mega-star stratosphere, seemingly overnight. You’d think this lucky once-in-a-lifetime opportunity would only help his love life.
The reality has been a tad trickier.
On a recent visit to The Graham Norton Show, John recounted what it’s been like to come into fame and how it has affected his love life.
He said that there have been some surprises when it comes to meeting women.
He recounted, "I went on a date in New York City, and we were driving through Times Square. And she asked, 'What do you do for a living?’ I just pointed up at the Star Wars billboard that showed me with a lightsaber and said, 'That!' That was the end of the relationship…I blocked her on my phone."
Poor guy! Even superstars are prone to heartbreak.
When the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer first came out, many people criticized the film for showing a black actor in a stormtrooper uniform. When asked by The New York Times about how that made him feel, John had the most grounded response.
He said, "It made me feel fine. I’m grounded in who I am, and I am a confident black man. A confident, Nigerian, black, chocolate man. I’m proud of my heritage, and no man can take that away from me. I wasn’t raised to fear people with a difference of opinion. They are merely victims of a disease in their mind."
Well John, we think you’ll find another date in no time!
