“Sherlock” star Martin Freeman would really like to stop being recognized by fans in this awkward place
We are all waiting with bated breath for the fourth season of BBC’s Sherlock. And it’s going to be here so soon! On January 1st, 2017 we get the first episode of the new season “The Six Thatchers” (at 9/8 c on Masterpiece PBS for stateside viewers). So of course fans are pretty flipping excited at this moment for all things Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
Speaking of Martin Freeman, because of all the Sherlock hype, the actor gets recognized constantly, and sometimes it is pretty flipping awkward.
Martin Freeman recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show. In the episode, Norton commented that the Sherlock actors tend to get recognized in some weird places. Norton brought up the example of Benedict Cumberbatch getting recognized in Nepal while filming Doctor Strange.
Freeman took the opportunity to do his Sherlock costar one better.
“I was at the urinal… and there were two guys… and they clocked me and they both went [Mimes peeking at genitalia] ‘Has he got a big one?'”
This was back when Freeman was acting in BBC’s The Office. In other words, before he starred in The Hobbit and Sherlock and won the love of two global fandoms. We can only imagine what madness it is now, a decade and change later, to be Mr. Freeman.
Speaking of getting recognized all over the place because you’re a part of two global super hits, Freeman can now pretty easily deduce whether a fan coming up to him is a Hobbit fan or a Sherlock diehard.
Ladies between the ages of 16 and 25 (and anyone who loves Sherlock), you have excellent taste, friends.
Here’s hoping Freeman has a wonderful holiday season. And doesn’t get bugged too much at the urinal. Or, you know, anywhere.
