One of our all time faves Selena Gomez took 90 days off from the world nearly a year ago, and although we missed her, she’s been very open about her experience away from the spotlight, and why it was important to her. Selena Gomez has been a star for years now, from a very young age, and if we’ve learned anything from other child or teen stars, it’s that it can be extremely difficult to transition from that to adult celebrity and that fame can be a heavy weight that breaks a lot of talented young people. On the Elvis Duran and The Morning Show, Selena talked about her experience taking some time off, and what she was sort of battling with at that time.
“It’s hard, it’s really hard when everyone around you is saying you should do this, it should look like, people are going to relate more to this, and deep down in my gut I’m like, ‘I don’t know if this is what I want, this isn’t where I want to be.’ I want to do this, I want it to feel like this, very genuine and honest and raw and real and I kind of have to go with my gut, so it’s hard.”
While there are definitely lots of benefits to being Selena Gomez (killer clothes, general talent, cool famous friends, and like, money) we can see how her job must be very high pressure and could really take a toll.
We’re going to repeat this because we love it so much:
“My confidence is my vulnerability.”
We love that Selena is learning about herself as a person, and is going to start prioritizing the things that matter to her, like being open and vulnerable. Mad respect.
