Paul Rudd stars in the Netflix original dark comedy The Fundamentals of Caring alongside Craig Roberts, Bobby Cannavale, Megan Ferguson, and pop superstar queen Selena Gomez.

The story follows Ben (Rudd), a grieving father and failed writer, who takes on a job as caretaker for a sarcastic teenage boy living with muscular dystrophy. The two of them embark on a road trip and meet Gomez (Dot), a charming and cheeky girl looking for a ride. A lot more happens, but we don’t want to ruin the fun for you.

Filming the movie was Rudd’s first time working with Gomez, and until he witnessed the thousands of people who follow her every move, he just didn’t understand the extend of her fame.

“I’m so out of touch,” Rudd told Variety at a screening of the film. “It wasn’t until we were filming and I saw thousands of people turning out to try and see her that I realized what a phenomenon she is. To see her deal with that kind of fame, I came away even more impressed with her. She’s extraordinary.”

We couldn’t agree more.

As of June 24, The Fundamentals of Caring is available to stream on Netflix, and it looks brilliantly funny.
