Proving that it’s always possible to find love again, Patton Oswalt announced his engagement to fiancee Meredith Salenger just a few days ago. Oswalt has definitely had a rough year. Last spring, Michelle McNamara, his wife of more than 10 years, was found dead in her sleep, and it took a while to figure out what caused her death.

As he spent time grieving the loss, he began dating Salenger, an actress who appeared in films like Lake Placid and had small roles in shows like Dawson’s Creek and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. But while the two seem quite happy, they were still hit with criticism over the news. Long story short, many fans felt as if the engagement happened a bit too quickly after McNamara’s passing.

Of course, Oswalt was preparing for this type of reaction — even referring to the negative commenters as “grub worms.”

On Facebook, he posted a blog entry from a woman named Erica Roman, whose husband died three days after McNamara and who found comfort in Oswalt’s openness about his grief.

The post, titled “A Widow’s Rage Defense of Patton Oswalt’s Engagement,” made some excellent points that commenters might not have realized.

The very powerful entry was shared over 10,000 times — and it’s the perfect way to explain how losing a loved one really feels.

It also proves that nobody can truly define grief, or tell you the correct way to grieve when you find yourself in a heartbreaking situation.

We can only imagine that falling in love again must have been tough for Oswalt. But all that really matters is that he’s happy.

And from the looks of it, Salenger has made him very, very happy.
