Even exes can stand up for each other when the chips are down. Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey may no longer be a hot Hollywood couple, but that doesn’t mean the two are at odds. They amicably co-parent their five-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, complete with fun family outings. But Nick Cannon showed that just because you’re not a couple doesn’t mean you can’t stand up for your ex. When faced with questions about the  now-infamous New Years Eve performance, Cannon defended Mariah Carey with class and tact regarding his ex wife (and gave us all serious breakup goals).

When asked about the technical difficulties that plagued Carey throughout her performance, Nick Cannon instantly jumped to her defense. Citing how awful it can be when performing live (particularly when things aren’t going as planned), Cannon applauded his ex for her poise and attitude despite all the problems.

Although they haven’t always been on such great terms, it seems the two celebs have put aside their differences and opted instead to focus on raising their children and providing them with a strong support network. Cannon’s tact and humor when defending Mariah Carey shows serious class; hopefully other guys will keep this in mind when discussing their former relationships.
