Misty Copeland is the American Ballet Theatre’s first African-American Principal Dancer who has pas-de-chated into everyone’s hearts. In 2014, Copeland signed a contract with Under Armour, a pairing which ESPN reported to be surprising for the athletic wear brand, and she’s been rocking the brand ever since. That is, until Tuesday when Under Armour’s CEO, Kevin Plank, praised Donald Trump by calling him, “a real asset to the country.” Under Armour representatives like The Rock and Misty Copeland have spoken out against their partnering brand’s misaligned political message.

Copeland took to Instagram to express her concerns with Plank’s statement, and it’s about as elegant as her pliés.

The bravely written caption reads,

Talk about bold!

Copeland’s Instagram is filled with pictures of her showing of UA’s clothes, and it’s obvious that she is proud to represent the brand. Just the day before posting her statement, Copeland shared a picture of her own collection she is releasing with Under Armour.

Misty’s statement championing diversity and inclusion proves that the she has super strength, as if we didn’t already know it by watching her dance! Clearly, Copeland has such strong convictions that she is willing to risk a contract in order to support her values. Don’t worry about Misty though: Her announcement that she is speaking privately to Plank suggests that Under Armour values her opinion, and she will likely remain an important contributor to the brand. Copeland sure isn’t just a pretty pirouette (though she definitely is that as well).

Misty epitomizes strength, grace and confidence, proving her a fierce role model for young girls around the world. Her statement shows that she’s unafraid to stand up for what she believes in, and it’s no wonder she is principal ballerina and everyone’s #GOALS.
