Meghan Markle's New Year's resolution will make you see 2018 in a completely new way
2017 is coming to a close, and with it comes a fresh year and a royal wedding. 2018 will be the year of the much-anticipated union between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. And lucky for us, the soon-to-be princess dropped some wisdom about embracing a new year. Well, back in 2016, that is. But Meghan Markle’s thoughts on New Year’s resolutions are timeless.
In honor of the royal engagement (and incredible engagement photos!), The Telegraph recently rediscovered a post about New Year’s resolutions from Markle’s now-defunct blog that she originally published on January 1st, 2016. However, unlike your typical run-of-the-mill New Year’s resolutions (work out more, eat healthier, get organized, etc.), Markle put a fresh spin on goal setting. And it’s something that we can all take tips from for 2018.
“For this new year, the only thing I aim to do is to approach life playfully. To laugh and enjoy, to keep my standards high but my level of self-acceptance higher,” Markle wrote about 2016, according to The Telegraph. “My New Year’s resolution is to leave room for magic. To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change. To let the magic know that there is an open door policy with me in 2016 and that it is always welcome to join the party.”
It was this resolution that may have ultimately helped lead Meghan Markle to Prince Harry, as People pointed out.
She met the prince in July of 2016, and the rest was history.
However, Markle was also open about her past hangups when it comes to “New Year, New Me” expectations.
Just like the rest of us, she admitted to wanting to rid herself of flaws she’s not proud of, like swearing and biting her nails. She said she was working to shift her mindset to be less critical by taking a fresh approach to resolution setting.
We feel you, girl. Props to Meghan Markle for being real about New Year’s resolutions. We wish her all the best with embracing the magic in 2018. It’s sure to be a great one!
