The party don’t start till Kesha walks in? If you remember the era of Kesha, you may notice something missing from the stars recent rebranding that happened after she left rehab for an eating disorder. Kesha just spilled why she dropped the $ from her name. The singer spoke at Refinery29′s Reclaim Your Domain Discussion Panel held as part of 2017’s SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, saying:

2017 Kesha is all about being transparent and authentic and not feeling beholden to a phony brand or, as she calls it, a facade.

I ditched the idea of what my image should or should not be at this point,” she said on the panel, “I have let go of trying to control things. And the new music is just me speaking honestly about my life for the first time ever without anyone dictating anything. Me speaking truthfully from my guts.”

Kesha has been honest about her recovery and the process of what it’s like to reintegrate into the world after rehab. Not only do we admire the fact she’s vocal about a subject that is predominantly taboo, but we love that she speaks about what it means to be true to who you are. Even though we thought Ke$ha was fun, we can’t deny that we love the self-aware, honest and open Kesha even more.

Regardless if she’s Kesha or Ke$ha we’ll still love her.
