Kelly Rowland said she and Kanye West go to Fashion Week in part for the music
From her Destiny’s Child years to working on her new album now, Kelly Rowland has always been all about the music. Lately, she’s also been killing the style game (check Kelly’s chic wide leg striped pants). So it makes total sense that she loves combining her two interests at New York Fashion Week. And she’s not the only one.
According to Refinery29, Kelly Rowland and Kanye West’s favorite thing about NYFW is the music.
Though Kanye’s busy debuting Yeezy Season 5, he’s still making time to hang with Kelly and guess what song is playing during the runway shows.
"I get inspired from Fashion Week," Kelly shared with Refinery29, "especially when I hear the music. I'm always intrigued by the music they're gonna play. It's always an artist that's either been here for decades, and then you're like, 'Oh my God, what song is that?' or it's someone you don't know. I Shazam the songs with my crew during shows. I refuse to put my phone away because I feel like somebody's gonna play a song I don't know."
Rowland and West even came up against each other to be the first to get Lanvin’s playlist.
"I remember sitting next to Kanye West, and we were both going, 'What is this?' And we were trying to figure out who the artist was, and so I said, God, I gotta go see who the music director is. And he was like, 'I'm about to get the jump drive [of the show's soundtrack]! We were both in competition to go get the jump drive."
Though they both gave it their best shot, neither artist came out with that jump drive. Lanvin was determined to keep the song a show secret.
“I got on my publicist’s nerves because I was bothering them, asking them to call Lanvin to ask what the song from the show was. I asked them that for a month, and they wouldn’t share who it was! It wasn’t written in the show notes, either, and they wouldn’t tell me.”
Luckily, Kelly and Kanye still have their own awesome music to listen to — and their own dope style to rock.
Better luck getting that playlist next time, Kelly!
