Breakups are hard and can get really messy. Sometimes, though, you get lucky and can manage to be friendly and supportive of your ex. That’s the goal, right? If you need some inspiration, just take in Joshua Jackson’s response to his ex Diane Kruger’s Cannes win. It was sweet, supportive, and showed that it is possible to get over a breakup, amicable or not.

In a totally unsolicited Instagram post, the actor posted an image of a title card announcing Kruger’s Best Actress win at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, writing in the caption,

Be still, our beating hearts. Kruger won the award for her performance in Into the Fade, a film about the aftermath of a terrorist attack. It’s something that’s close to the 40-year-old actress’ heart. Back when she won an award for her role in Inglourious Basterds, Kruger dedicated it to all of the people “who have to go on living” after tragedies. Given recent events, her words could not be more timely.

Jackson and Kruger broke up late last year after dating for 10 years. After so much time with another human being, it’s hard to not care about their accomplishments and lives. Jackson and Kruger are walking proof of that, though it hasn’t always been easy.

In December 2016, Jackson admitted that dating after Diane is a challenge. He told Ellen DeGeneres on her show, “Things have changed a little bit since last time I was single. Maybe it was there, but I don’t remember it. I mean, everything’s on your phone now, right?”

He added, “There’s no more talking to people anymore. You talk to somebody and they’re like, ‘Ugh! No, no, no, no, no! We don’t do that anymore.’ So, yeah, it’s been quite a big change.”

In addition to figuring out how to work Bumble, learning to open up your heart after a decade with someone can’t be easy. But Jackson and Kruger obviously still have a lot of love and respect for each other, and that can make moving on just teeny tiny bit easier.
