Hold up. Hold up. Maybe they really be all night, in love.

If those words sound familiar, they’re a variation of the final lyrics to Beyoncé’s epic love song “Drunk in Love”. But even more epic than the lyrics is the surprise Jay Z pulled off for the final night of his wife’s Formation tour.

For the first time throughout Beyoncé’s entire 49-stop, three-legged world tour, Hova joined Bey on stage at the MetLife stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey to help her sing “Drunk in Love”.

Luckily for those of us who didn’t make it to the show, How to Get Away With Murder‘s Aja Naomi King did, and she posted an Instagram video of the surprising duet.

To recap, the Formation Tour was in support of Beyoncé’s most recent album, Lemonade.

Lemonade was a visual album, which meant an avant-garde film was released in conjunction with the record. (Both available exclusively on Apple music and Tidal, of course.) A beautiful, catchy track titled “Sorry” delivered the infamous “Becky with the good hair” lyric, which has now been analyzed and decoded ad nauseam. (Check out a recap here!) “Sorry” wasn’t Bey’s first track that alluded to Hova’s infidelity, but it was her first song that gave the world a descriptive hint about who else might be involved in the story.

The artistically-delivered drama caused a stir in the BeyHive. Loyal members started questioning the Queen Bey. What are her ultimate priorities? Family? Career? Fame? Who, besides the singer herself, even knows?

In yet another masterful move to show who’s really reigning supreme, Jay Z’s surprise performance reminds us that their stage chemistry is undeniable, and that definitely comes from somewhere real.
