Jay-Z shared why he and Beyoncé named the twins Rumi and Sir
The case is closed and the mystery is solved. We now know why Jay-Z and Beyoncé named their twins Rumi and Sir. When Beyoncé gave birth to the twins back in June, it was truly a blessed event. There was a lot of speculation about the significance behind Rumi’s beautiful name and Sir’s equally unique one. And now, we have official word.
Rap Radar podcast hosts Elliot Wilson and Brian Miller interviewed Jay-Z about his new music and his new babies. When the twins came up, the rapper was candid about their naming process for his young son and daughter.
Much speculation followed their naming announcement back in June.
Many people correctly guessed that Rumi was named after the famous Persian poet, but Sir was a little more unclear. In addition, some people thought “Sir” referred to a line in this Rumi poem, which turned out to be a pretty cool coincidence.
Jay-Z also talked about his equivalent of paid family leave. He purposely pushed the start of his tour to October so he could spend more time with the twins and their older sister, Blue Ivy.
We’re glad Jay-Z gets to as much time as possible with Rumi and Sir. And we adore their names!
