Although Gwyneth Paltrow will always be an actress first in our minds, we realize that we must now share her with the lifestyle company she created. Whether you love it or loathe it, Goop is a part of Paltrow’s life, and with that in mind, we have some particularly bad news for fans of her as an actress. That’s because, as she explained to Matt Lauer on TODAY, Paltrow is taking a break from acting to focus more on Goop. Say it ain’t so!

In March, Paltrow revealed she was the CEO of Goop in a very low-key way, but she told Lauer that the board actually named her CEO back in September or October of 2016. She said that much hasn’t changed when it comes to how she is treated at the office: “I think [the title] just sort of outlines and delineates other responsibilities, but the dynamics haven’t really changed.”

Uh, that’s probably because we’re pretty sure that anyone who works at Goop knows who is top boss — CEO title or not.

However, what has changed is the time Gwyneth Paltrow can commit to acting. She said:

When Lauer questioned Paltrow on using the past tense to describe her acting career, she responded by saying:

Considering that Paltrow’s Pepper Potts has notably been missing from the recent Avengers movies and that her last film was 2015’s critically-panned Mortdecai, I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised to hear that her focus hasn’t been on acting. Yet, we’re still sad to hear about her hiatus.

As for the luxurious lifestyle that Goop promotes, it’s not necessarily for everyone. But Paltrow understands that her + Goop is pretty embedded into people’s minds right now as she continues to grow the company with things like a line of vitamins, a Goop print magazine, and even a recent wellness summit — entitled “In Goop Health.”

About how people think of Goop when they think of her, she said to Lauer:

No matter if her acting career is being placed on the backburner, we’ll always love Paltrow for her standout roles in films like Emma, Shakespeare in Love, and The Royal Tenenbaums. So take care of her, Goopsters, until she has time to return to the big screen!
