You might not have known that Gina Rodriguez, star of Jane the Virgin, and Lena Dunham were tight — but surprise! The two are friends who are close enough to send each other motivational gifts when things get heavy. After a bit of media scrutiny this past week, Dunham likely needed a little bit of cheering up.

And Rodriguez knew the perfect way to send over some love and support.

The necklace is short and sweet, with words engraved that read “I Embody The Crap Out Of Myself.

Of course, since it’s Instagram, Dunham received a few negative comments. But even then, post-gift, Rodriguez decided to jump in and help defend her friend.

“I don’t know you, you don’t know me, you don’t know Lena,” she said to one individual. “I get it. You got ambitious, some courage to put someone else down because your what bored, or in pain yourself? But come on my dude, this wasn’t necessary. And to answer your question, yes, yes I love Lena, others do too… go grab a hug from someone. Because you’re too cute to be so mean.” (Touché.)

So, what are the lessons we’ve learned here? First, true friends always have your back. Second, you should always embody the crap out of yourself. And third, if you’ve got nothing nice to say, maybe bullying someone through social media might not be the best solution. Remember — just because someone’s in the public eye, it doesn’t mean that the hateful words won’t affect them.

Now, if only we can figure out where Rodriguez got that necklace, since all of us need some solid words of encouragement once in awhile!
