When looking at someone as talented and recognizable as Zayn Malik, it’s easy to assume that they never deal with the problems the rest of us cope with every day. However, after canceling his performance at the Capital Summertime Ball, Zayn revealed that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Unfortunately my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me,” Zayn wrote on Twitter. “[W]ith the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.

Zayn then concluded that individuals dealing with anxiety will understand where he’s coming from. As for those who won’t, Zayn hopes they can empathize with his situation – just like his girlfriend Gigi Hadid.

Z – I’ve seen the battles you go through and the way you fight to get to a place that allows you to get up there for your fans. Your bravery in those times makes me proud, but your honesty last night proved what you’re all about, being real. Human recognizes human,” wrote Gigi on Twitter, in response to Zayn’s statement about his anxiety. “You made the best of the situation and have given your fans an opportunity to understand you better as a performer. Those who can find compassion now are the ones that deserve to watch you continue to grow.

Gigi concluded, “We are all here to support you and make each experience easier. Your talent and good heart will never lead you wrong. Love you and so proud of you always 🙂 xG

When trying to help someone who’s dealing with anxiety, it can be difficult to know what to do. However, we think Gigi beautifully handled the situation. She stood by Zayn when he needed her most and worked to spread compassion. Together, both Gigi and Zayn made it known that no one is alone when they’re dealing with anxiety.
