George R.R. Martin is probably one of the most recognizable writers on the planet. Most authors can stay relatively anonymous, but Martin has a signature style that has endeared the Game of Thrones mastermind to fans around the world. Well, most fans.

Apparently, there are a few exceptions, because George R.R. Martin got carded at his publisher’s offices.

When it comes to Game of Thrones fans, running into Martin is just as exciting as an unexpected Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) or Kit Harington (Jon Snow) sighting. Martin has a fan base of his own — between his amazing books, unique style, approachability, and more. This gets him noticed and bombarded by fans most places he goes.

But recently, he didn’t get recognized in the one place he expected to — his publisher’s offices. We’re going to take a wild guess and say that Martin is probably one of the most high-profile clients for his publisher, but still, the security guard didn’t recognize him.

Martin joked about the incident on Twitter:

It’s obvious that George took the whole thing in stride. He even used an emoji! And maybe he hasn’t been to his publisher as frequently as we’d like *hint hint*. After all, even though Game of Thrones isn’t over, he’s probably been busy with his next projects.

So if you see Martin walking around New York City, make sure to grab a selfie so he knows we still recognize him. We wouldn’t want him to change up his style or anything, because we love it so much. Also, is it too much to ask for him to make a cameo in Game of Thrones before it ends? Then everyone will 100% know what he looks like.
