It’s no secret that breakups really, truly suck. And The Bachelor‘s Vanessa Grimaldi has broken her silence after her split with Nick Viall, and she isn’t afraid to admit she’s heartbroken.

Less than a week after she and Nick Viall officially broke off their engagement, the Season 21 winner broke her social media silence with a bittersweet message for friends and fans.

While both Nick, 36, and Vanessa, 29, proved picture-perfect on camera, the cold hard truth is that sometimes relationships that look pristine on paper just don’t work out — and it’s okay to take some time to process that loss and heal.

Though they’re no doubt both heartbroken post-split, it appears that these ex’s are doing everything they can to remain on good terms. The two made that abundantly clear when they released a formal statement announcing the end of their engagement on August 25th to US Weekly, which read:

Nick took to Instagram to “like” Vanessa’s post, but apart from that gesture he’s kept mum about the breakup on social media.

Nick and Vanessa found love on the past season of The Bachelor, which concluded back in March. The Montreal-based special education teacher relocated to Los Angeles with Nick after their season aired, however, it’s unclear if she’ll return to Canada post-split.

At the end of the day, we’re super proud of Vanessa for reminding us all that it’s okay to *really* feel the heart ache after a breakup, and also that things truly will be okay again. We’re there for you, girl.
