Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs have been engaged for nearly two years.

But if you ask Robert Pattinson, they are only “kind of” engaged.

While it may sound like he’s being funny or being coy, it’s actually quite the opposite. The former Twilight star would love to be more open about his relationship, but he can’t.

Pattinson was on The Howard Stern Show when he tried to clear up his relationship status. Stern asked the star if he and his love Twigs were engaged, to which Pattinson responded, “Kind of.” Obviously Stern made a joke about it, and Pattinson responded that he would LOVE to flaunt his relationship like a normal couple: “It’s one of the most frustrating things in the world. Because you want to be able to do that,” he said.

As for why he can’t be more open, Pattinson claims that a certain population of his post-Twilight fandom has been anything but kind.

Pattinson is giving this “crack troop of crazies” too much credit. Back in 2014, Twigs tweeted about the barrage of racist hate she received, simply because she was dating Pattinson.

Twigs elaborated in 2015 when she told Complex that the online hate was wearing on her: “I wouldn’t say I’m completely numb to it now, but there’s definitely a numbness there. It is pretty horrible,” Twigs told the magazine. “But ultimately, I’m in an amazing relationship. So it doesn’t matter.”

It is heartbreaking that this talented couple cannot proudly celebrate their love. All our love to Pattinson and Twigs.
