With all the coverage of her clothes and the arrival of her new twins, sometimes people seem to forget that Amal Clooney is a world-class human rights lawyer who stands up to dictators and terrorists. And her and husband’s politics are personal. Case in point: George and Amal Clooney just took in a Yazidi refugee who was threatened by ISIS, proving that the couple doesn’t just get involved in politics for show.

Amal is representing Yazidi genocide victims in an International Criminal Court investigation, and decided to go the extra mile for one of them. Her husband told The Hollywood Reporter:

So now, the man is living in the couples’ home in Augusta, Kentucky. And he’s come a long way from that bus in Mosul.

Clooney said that he’s now a student at the University of Chicago, which is no joke. But helping just one refugee start over isn’t enough for the couple. George said that around $20 million of the money he made by selling Casamigos Tequila (which he owned with Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman) is going to go to refugee resettlement and education. It’s going directly to the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which provides education, housing, and other necessities to refugees, the actor said.

He added that with all of their social justice work (Mr. Clooney has started tracking the money trail of south Sudanese politicians, for example), they get real threats. So now that they’re parents, things might have to change. After Amal finished some scary work in the Maldives, trying to free President Mohamed Nasheed who was imprisoned on bogus terrorism charges, the couple had a long, hard discussion about how to continue their work and be parents.

Let’s hear it for Amal, the world’s biggest badass. Housing refugees until the twins are least a year old might be good enough for now. Maaaaaybe.
