Our favorite Hollywood celebrities are usually the ones who are brutally honest about the struggles they’ve experienced throughout their career. Just one example involves Brie Larson, who reaffirmed how truly relatable and beautiful she is by posting a throwback picture of herself alongside some emotionally honest words.

In the Instagram photo, Brie looked similar to how she does now — fresh-faced and picture-perfect — but she revealed that this snapshot was actually taken a while ago, back before she had access to a glam squad.

“I found this Madewell dress in my closet. The most I knew how to do for grooming was pin half of [my hair] back and blink on a few coats of mascara.”

Admittedly, Brie was highly self-conscious about the whole thing, even though she was attending the Maui Film Festival to be honored for her work.

“Before we went to the ceremony I felt flashes of embarrassment – I was worried I was too fat, too ugly, too depressingly banal to be honored. I cringed to take photos.”

We’re now applauding Brie for her candidness. (Not that we would expect anything less from her, of course.) However, despite the feelings Brie had in 2013, the actress is currently able to look back at herself with pride, insisting,

“I wish I saw myself then as I see myself now.”

She added, referring to her past self, “There is nothing wrong with this person. She is honest and beautiful and committed to showing up for this life.” Brie then concluded by reminding us all that there’s no need to pretend to be anyone else. Who we are is more than enough, and we should embrace every second of it.

Overall, we’re absolutely loving these body-positive posts by celebs who aim to use their voices to make a difference. They’re excellent reminders that we should be proud of our own bods, too. Amy Schumer, for instance, recently shared a photo of herself, which a fan set alongside the Greek goddess Aphrodite, highlighting the similar body types and insisting that you don’t have to look a certain way to feel powerful and beautiful.

Earlier this year, Demi Lovato (aka our hero) pulled a similar move and posted a picture of herself behind-the-scenes at an Allure photo shoot — one that was free of Photoshop and editing. She wrote in the caption,

“Posting a #nophotoshop pic because I’m proud to show my body the way it naturally is.”

Keep it up, ladies. We could always use more body positivity – all day, every day.
