If women and femmes had a dollar for every time we were put down for being “bossy” or assertive, we’d have a whole lot of money. Men, meanwhile, are often respected for the same behavior. Thankfully, we’re slowly but surely shifting that paradigm by speaking out against these double standards, and celebrities are doing the same alongside us. Take Blake Lively, who just explained the one word she’d never use to describe her daughters: bossy.

In an interview with Glamour, the starlet revealed some sage parenting advice that we can’t help but appreciate.

Blake talked about what it’s like to raise a child with confidence and continue nurturing it as they grow older. She says children are already born perfect, and it’s society that teaches them to think otherwise.

So not only do she and husband Ryan Reynolds make sure to not say anything negative about themselves while they’re around daughters, James and Inez, there’s one word specifically that they won’t use: bossy.

Raise girls and boys the same. Tell women to be assertive. Allow them to stand up for themselves. But take a cue from Blake and — ditch the word bossy. Women are bosses, but we don’t need to be shamed for it.
