In super sad news, actor Bill Paxton has died from surgery complications. A family representative confirmed the news this morning. Paxton was an incredibly prolific actor, and had been working in the movie industry for over four decades! The 61-year old actor was known for his roles in so many amazing films. Needless to say, he will be sorely missed. If you want to check out some of his great roles, read on! We’ve compiled a list of all our favorite Bill Paxton movies to watch today and remember this incredible talent.
Kicking off this list is Tombstone, one of the greatest Westerns of all times! In it, Paxton plays Morgan Earp, one of several brothers in this family drama. We won’t give away too much, but he co-stars with some 80s actor heroes such as Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, and Sam Elliott! This is a great film to watch if you’re looking for a great Western drama!
Apollo 13 (1995)
One of Paxton’s greatest roles was as Fred Haise in Apollo 13. Based on the true story of the NASA’s Apollo 13 mission, it is so scary and suspenseful. Paxton plays one of the astronauts stuck on a ship that due to a technical difficulty might not make it back to work. This is Paxton at his most dramatic and suspenseful.
Who could forget Paxton in Titanic!? The classic film we all wept over as children contains one of Paxton’s best roles. You will remember Paxton as the treasure hunter searching for the infamous “heart of the ocean” necklace who started the whole story. It seriously worth a re-watch!
Action film Twister was Paxton at his best, hands down, no discussion. In it, he played Bill Harding, a storm chaser in the midst of a divorce who has to team up with his wife to create an advanced weather alert system. On paper, it sounds totally weird, but we swear that Twister is such a great and suspenseful film. Also, lots of tornados, and tornados are awesome.
Paxton plays a supporting role in this film, but he still totally dominates it. In Aliens, Paxton plays Private William Hudson, a Space Marine who is incredibly cocky and always ready with a snappy comeback. This is the perfect film if you want to see Paxton deliver some incredible one-liners.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
In this cult favorite, Paxton plays no-nonsense Master Sergeant Farell. He does such an incredible job of being the kind of army man that you do not mess with. This is another great supporting role for Paxton.
Paxton plays Joe Loder, a supporter role in this gritty thriller about freelance journalists who cover gruesome accidents. It is incredibly creepy and a great film if you’re looking for something more on the side of horror and suspense.
Paxton did some incredible television roles. Most notable he played Bill Henrickson on Big Love and bad guy John Garrett on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He was currently working on the CBS series Training Day, which his son recently acted alongside him on.
The crazy thing is that this is only the beginning. Paxton worked on so many amazing movies and shows. We’ve barely scratched the surface on this great talent. So thank you, Bill Paxton. You gave us so many incredible characters throughout the years. You will be very missed, and we’re wishing your family all the best.
