The divorce between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp was definitely a bit alarming. It seems like every day, we heard new stories about violence and fear in their relationship. Thankfully, these two have found a bit of peace, as their divorce settlement was finally made official.

The entire ordeal was a shame for Heard. While she tried to make the abuse that she suffered public knowledge, she was met with a lot of criticism and negativity — a response that often prevents women from speaking out about very real, very horrifying situations like this in the first place. To add more to her strife, she was commonly referred to as a gold-digger. While Depp’s income definitely surpasses her own, Heard still makes quite a good living for herself, which made these claims even more preposterous.

In the settlement, Heard received $7 million dollars, and decided to prove all of her naysayers wrong by donating every bit of it to charity. Seems like she was underestimated by many, as this action shows that she was unfairly misrepresented in the media, and isn’t making up stories solely to cash in. The money will be split between two charities near and dear to Heard’s heart: the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

“As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,” Heard said in a statement. “I know these organizations will put the funds to good use and look forward to continuing to support them in the future. Hopefully, this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most.”

Heard is doing a great deed. We hope that she can put this relationship past her, and spend some time healing and focusing on both herself and her incredibly impressive career.
