J.K. Rowling tweeted a bunch of thoughtful things about Alan Rickman, and now we're officially sad
It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly two years since we lost the legendary actor Alan Rickman. From his unforgettable role as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter franchise, to his classic Christmas performance in Die Hard, Rickman left behind a legacy that will not soon fade. Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is among those who remembers him with particular fondness; the two worked together closely during the making of the epic film series. And this Christmas season, Rowling remembered her late friend with a series of incredibly sweet tweets. We’re totally not crying (OK, we might be crying a little bit).
While Rowling doesn’t necessarily need a reason to send out some loving and heartfelt tweets about Rickman, something did actually inspire her this time. It appears as if a family viewing of Die Hard is what triggered this latest batch. The beloved action movie has become a strange Christmas classic — and reminded Rowling of what a tremendous talent Rickman really ways, no matter what movie.
Rowling wasn’t the only famous fan deeply missing the late actor. NPR host Peter Sagal chimed in, reminding Rowling of the incredibly sweet and heartfelt goodbye letter Rickman penned following the conclusion of the Harry Potter franchise.
As the two reminisced (and meanwhile, other fans chimed in with some of their favorite roles Rickman played over the years), Rowling offered up a simple and lovely epitaph for the dearly departed and much loved actor:
Alan Rickman was truly a talent, and many of his best movies are perfect Christmas viewing. Whether you’re enjoying Snape skulking around at the Yule Ball, Hans Gruber causing mischief, or making questionable life choices as a conflicted husband in Love, Actually, ’tis the season to celebrate the life and work of the utterly unforgettable man and actor.
