Adele pulled a Cady Heron, and ended up giving half of her Grammy to Beyoncé last night
It’s safe to say that Adele truly made the 2017 Grammy Awards pretty memorable. And know what? It was all due to her love of music. Last night, she won the award for Album of the Year (among others) and did something we’ve never really seen before — Adele broke her Grammy and shared it with Beyoncé, who was also nominated last night for Lemonade.
UPDATE: OK, so it looks like this was a rumor that the internet desperately wanted to believe. And hey, who can blame them (and by “them,” we clearly mean “us”)? Turns out, Adele broke her Grammy on accident. It was promptly swapped out with a fresh, intact trophy. Womp womp. We know those two still love each other to death though!
Of course, before that happened, Adele said some incredibly sweet words about the star.
But, she didn’t stop there. In fact, most of her speech was dedicated to Queen Bey.
From there, she broke the Grammy — and gave half to Beyoncé.
Not only is this a total Mean Girls redemption move (since everyone is a North Shore High School Spring Fling queen at heart) but it’s positively charming.
While some people speculate that the Grammy breaking was an accident, it just seems…well, a little too convenient. Especially after Adele said that she “cannot accept this award.”
All in all, her speech was absolutely incredible — even if it did throw in yet another f-bomb.
And backstage, she managed to praise her favorite even more, stating “I thought it was her year. What the f**k does she have to do to win Album of the Year?”
Earlier in the show, Adele was making headlines for halting her beautiful tribute to George Michael, based on problems with pitch — a move we thought was both daring and truly unique.
The fact that she spoke up, with all eyes on her, proved that she wanted to give Michael her very best.
While Lemonade was a fantastic album, and perhaps might have truly deserved this year’s win, we definitely think that Adele’s 25 was also a strong and incredible nominee. We’ve got our fingers crossed that maybe Adele and Beyoncé may consider a song collaboration sometime in the future — it’d definitely be award-winning.
