Some of the celebrity breakups that hurt us the most
Look, I am not a psychologist. So, I am not sure why it hurts so much when celebrity couples break up, but we all know it does. Celeb breakups are devastating. They make our hearts quake a little bit. They make us wonder of THEY can’t make it, WHO really can.
I have had personal break ups that have been easier than some of my favorite couples separating, TBH. Unfortunately, break ups are a part of life, even in the big ol’ celebrity world. Here are a few of the ones that have hurt us the most.
Will Arnett and Amy Poehler
Will and Amy broke up a long time ago but I still think about them all the time. Does that make me a weirdo? Probably, but I don’t care what you guys think of me!! Amy and Will were such a great couple. Such a perfectly matched duo of weirdos. They had crazy chemistry in real life as well as on screen. It’s such a bummer when couples have to split, but I truly believe that these two at least make their friendship / co-parenting work perfectly.
Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
I KNOW this one is really fresh for all of us — and for that, I am sorry. Emma and Andrew were ridiculously perfect. Has anyone even seen a more #relationshipgoals couple? They did all of that cool stuff together, like call out paparazzi with handwritten notes, and make each other laugh in interviews. I also really like couples that start dating after doing a movie together because it always drives home my point that dating your coworkers is always absolutely a thing.
Selena Gomez and The Biebs
Okay excuuuuse me, but I really loved these two together. They were the modern day Justin and Britney and anyone who thought they didn’t make sense together doesn’t make sense to me. Both of the young’uns are (or, okay, were) innocent and kind and talented and clearly special to one another. I am a firm believer in breakups helping you grow and I believe that both of them have grown exponentially since that breakup. It doesn’t mean I don’t miss them together though.
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams
First of all, everyone loves The Notebook and these two were in The Notebook, obviously, and everyone always wants couples like that (Noah and Allie) to be together in real life and THEY WERE TOGETHER IN REAL LIFE. Ryan and Rachel were ridiculously perfect. I still hold out hope that they will Noah and Allie us one day.
Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears
Oh my god, sorry that I never left my childhood behind, but let’s be honest. I know that Justin is super cute with Jessica Biel and their adorable baby and they really do seem super happy, but can anything ever really beat matching denim? (The answer is no, obvs.)
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were so cute, you guys. They seemed like the perfect couple —exactly what the other one had been waiting for after all of those years. After Ben’s high profile relationship with the other Jennifer, he quietly married and started a family with Garner, giving us all, as the kids say, all of the feels. It was a real bummer when they split up, in fact, I kind of stopped believing in love again.
Jen Aniston and Brad Pitt
Unpopular opinion much? Look, it has taken me years to get on the Brangelina train but after those adorable pictures and Angelina Jolie’s beautiful op-eds, I think I have finally moved on. I know Jennifer Aniston is happy and I’m sure that Brad is happy as well. GREAT, that doesn’t mean that I get a little teary-eyed whenever I watch TOW The Rumor every Thanksgiving! Brad and Jennifer were my favorite couple. It’s going to take me awhile to get over it.
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
Gwen and Gavin had the best relationship ever, or so it seemed. The rockstar couple had been together forever and they had adorable children together and they just seemed to vibe really well together, all of the time. Things happen though, even with beautiful rockstar couples. The two recently split and everyone has been having a hard time with, undoubtedly the two of them have been going through the worst of it.
Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson
This one felt personal, y’all. Jess and Nick had that amazing reality show on MTV called Newlyweds, which made us feel like we were a part of their relationship. Nick and Jessica were adorable together —like that couple in high school that reminded you of Barbie and Ken. Though they married pretty young and placed their relationship in the spotlight almost the entire time they were together, it was still a pretty big bummer when they split up.
