Celebrities who crushed it with their very first tweet

Just like a baby’s first step, a celebrity’s first tweet is kind of a big deal, and usually met with the same kind of fanfare. There’s a whole lot of anticipation for a simple 140 characters, and you might fall hard on your tush. It’s stressful taking that first step and sending your first tweet to the twittersphere, because what happens if no one likes it? What happens if no one re-tweets it? Gasp, what happens if no one follows you?

Yeah, that doesn’t happen when you’re famous. Just the other day, Monica Lewinsky sent out her first tweet ever, with a simple hashtag-ed, #HereWeGo. It was re-tweeted three thousand times. She already has over fifty thousand followers. Clearly, she took a good first step on Twitter. So, in honor of her big debut, let’s take a look back at some of the very best celebrity first tweets we’ve ever seen.

Neil Patrick Harris

When Twitter first started, this was actually the best joke ever before we learned how to keep our thoughts concise, too the point, and less than 140 spaces.

Robert Downey Jr.

Bonus points for his bio which simply reads: you know who I am.

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick is great on Twitter, because she starts the best conversations with everyone. (THIS conversation made my life complete)

Oprah

The CIA

Ha, ha, CIA. We see what you did there.

Hillary Clinton

If you don’t know, this tweet is a shout-out to the folks who created their own “Texts from Hillary” account.

Chris Pratt

Way back before he was Star Lord, Chris Pratt only had 40 people retweet this. 40! That’s unheard of for him nowadays.

Zooey Deschanel

A first tweet and a movie recommendation? Hell, yeah.

B.J. Novak

Straight, to the point and psyched. Slam dunk!

Keough Novak

We always love a hilarious shout out to our HG founder.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

JGL kicked things off with a clever heads up about his awesome collaboration, hitRECord.

Taylor Swift

Just the beginning of many more very special cat moments with T-Swift.

Jimmy Kimmel

Ha ha.

Tom Hiddleston

Be still, my heart.

Josh Groban

PSA: if you’re not following Josh Groban on Twitter, you should be, because he is the unsung hilarious hero of 140 characters.

Retta

Donna was live-tweeting before any of us in 2008.

Adam Scott

Conan O’Brien

This tweet happened right after his show was canceled on NBC. Sad day for us all — but at least he started tweeting.

Will Friedle

That one happened just the other day, and I laughed for a good long while because Eric Matthews will always have a place in my heart.
