“Grey’s Anatomy’”s Caterina Scorsone Had a Horrific Fire at $2.24 Million Home
She says she had two minutes to get her young daughters out before the house went up in flames.
Caterina Scorsone, star of the hit ABC medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy, took time to share some of the shocking things she experienced when her $2.24M California mansion went up in flames only a few months ago. In an Instagram post on Apr. 3, the actress said that she quickly managed to save her children as massive fire tore through her home, but that nothing else survived the accident, including the family’s pets.
“While getting my kids ready for bed and finishing bath time, smoke began to seep up through the grout around the tub,” Scorsone detailed in the caption of the post. “When I looked down the hallway a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house.”

The woman who played Dr. Amelia Shepherd explained that she and her three young daughters, aged 10, six, and three, “escaped with less than shoes on our feet” as the fire quickly engulfed their home. She says her family had “about two minutes” to reach safety, but that “heartbreakingly, we lost all four of our pets.”
Months later, she and her family are still processing the loss of their beloved furry friends, and that despite the tragedy, they feel “lucky we got to love them at all.”
These heart-wrenching details were coupled with photos of the star’s former home, some of which showed major smoke and structural damage of the living area after nearly being burnt to the ground. She also shared images of the family’s dog and three cats.
Scorsone did not reveal the cause of the fire, nor exact details of when it happened. Pasadena Now covered details from a two-alarm fire that damaged a home in the area on Jan. 23, 2023, stating that “five fire engines and additional dept. equipment were called to the scene at 6:49 p.m.” and that “the fire reportedly started in the basement.”
The exact address of the home was not provided in the coverage, only that it was a residence “on the 1500 block of Poppy Peak.” According to Zillow records uncovered by The Daily Mail, Scorsone’s address is located in this location, making it likely the home reported by the local news outlet.
The TV star made a point to acknowledge the generosity of her neighbors, family, friends, and public safety officials who made sure she and her family remained safe, sound, and supported throughout the ordeal.
“Thank you to my neighbor who answered our frantic knocks at her door,” she continued in the post caption. “Thank you to the parents at my kids’ school who sent toys and books.”
She also gave a special shoutout to the cast and crew members of Grey’s Anatomy and Shondaland, “Who sent clothing and supplies… Thank you to my team who made everything easier.”
“What we learned is that the only thing that matters are the people (and beings) that you love,” she concluded in the emotional post. “The only thing that matters is community. We would not be here without it and we are so grateful. Thank you.”
