Cate Blanchett’s perfectly badass answer to a rather silly interview question
Amazing actress and human person we idolize, Cate Blanchett, is no stranger to the interview circuit. But when faced with a particularly ridiculous set of questions this week she decided not to give into the inanity and called the interviewer out instead. Blanchett is currently making the rounds promoting her latest film, Cinderella, and the interview in question happened during a sit down with The Project’s Jonathan Hyla.
Hyla, who had what we consider to be an absolutely incredible opportunity to talk to the Oscar-winning actress, used his time to ask her about things like what she likes to drink and how she got a cat to behave on a leash during filming.
We quote Hyla here: “How were you able to get that cat to do what you wanted [it] to do on a leash? I tried to put my girlfriend’s cat on a leash and it just never works for me.”
At that point, Blanchett had had enough, and asked Hyla, “That’s your question? That’s your f****** question?” From there she brought the interview to an end.
You can see the moment in the video here. Which we love:

This is not the first time Cate has called out interviewers for their strange (and gendered) questions and we totally love her for it.
Women in the entertainment industry have long struggled with making sure the focus during interviews is on their work, and not on their looks or trivial things like getting a cat to behave on set. It’s a problem that has received particular attention this year, due to the #AskHerMore campaign backed by Reese Witherspoon, Julianne Moore, and many other A-list stars. And of course, Cate herself is known for calling out inequality on the red carpet, throwing shade at the ManiCam and challenging E!’s Glam Cam when she caught it taking a full sweep up her body mid-interview.
Cate Blanchett is an incredibly talented and accomplished woman, and there is no reason Hyla should waste her time asking such silly questions. She’s way better than that.
So props to Cate for standing up for herself! And we hope more women take a stand against these insultingly simplistic interviews.
