Catbird released a breathtaking “Transparent”-themed jewelry collection that supports trans rights

The new season of Amazon’s Transparent premiered this week, and to celebrate its fourth year, along with transgender rights, beloved Brooklyn brand Catbird launched a Transparent-themed jewelry collection. Even better? Fifty percent of the proceeds from sales will go directly to the National Center for Transgender Equality.

The brand is offering two different Transparent designs: Rings in both sterling silver and 14-karat gold that retail for $240, and a necklace made of sapphires that sells for $560. The rings feature the transgender symbol, and the necklace is actually made to mirror the blue and pink of the flag. Subtle, but gorgeous. And for a good cause.

Transparent creator Jill Soloway told Vogue,

"At Transparent, we are proud to be trans. These pieces are subtle and empowering works of art incorporating trans symbology. Wearing them will be a wonderful indicator of allyship and solidarity."

Soloway should know — she worked closely with Catbird’s founder, Rony Vardi, and creative director Leigh Batnick Plessner, to create the pieces and partner up.

Plessner said of the collaboration, “This collaboration took two years and it was kismet at the beginning — we cried when we got the go-ahead.” She added that she feels super close to the Pfeffermans, the fictional family from the show.

For Vardi, it was about taking a stand and making the brand’s customers proud. She said,

"When you are choosing to spend your money on something that you want but you don’t need, and it’s with us, we want you to know that you have put your resources into a place that is built on kindness and community.

That is good to know, and the next time someone questions our splurges, we’ll be happy to share the good news.

To launch the pieces, Catbird has hired an all-trans collective to shoot a portrait series featuring the Transparent crew rocking the jewels. The pieces are available now online.
