There’s a place known as Cat Island, and it’s exactly what it sounds like

We have some great news or terrifying news, depending on how you feel about cats. There’s an island in Japan that has been completely overrun with cats. More than 120 feral cats are just chillin’ on an island, you guys.

Aoshima Island is known as Cat Island, for obvious reasons. Cats outnumber humans 6 to 1. It’s like a cat cafe, except outside IRL. As you can imagine, tourists who are pretty into the idea of cats running the world are flocking to Aoshima to check it out.

According to The Washington Post, the cats were originally brought to the island to help deal with the mouse population that would attack the fishing boats. “Deal with” clearly means “eat them.” About 10 years ago, as the human population declined, the cat population grew. Now, less than 10 cats on the island are spayed or neutered, which is why the population keeps growing and growing. Bob Barker would not be happy about this.

Don’t worry, even though they roam the streets, there’s no chance they could get hit by a car — there are no cars on the island, just one ferry that carries up to 34 passengers twice a day, many of them tourists. There aren’t even any stores. All the island has to offer is cats, but for cat-loving people — that’s really all they need.
